Member rights, that is something ALL members should take into consideration always during employment at Southwest. These rights are provided for all us in our current agreement, and despite the prolonged negotiations, they remain in TACT, until our contract is amended. Articles in our contract that pertain to these rights are: Article 25; Union Representation, Article 26; Union Security, and Article 31; Grievance Procedure. The contract can be found on our website; www.amfa4.com, under the Member Resources tab.
One other document that protects members in a collective bargaining group; (the Union) is; the Weingarten Rights. These rights derive form a Supreme Court decision in 1975. In short, it states that any member has the GURANTEE of Union Representation during an investigatory interview with management. The Weingarten Rights also protect any Union Representative during a fact-finding interview with management. More info of the Weingarten Rights can be found by searching “Weingarten Rights” on any search engine of your choice.
One standard statement any member should remember if being asked to a fact finding with management is:
"If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or discharged, request that my Union representative be present at the meeting. Without representation, I choose not to answer any questions."
